Konstantinos Giannakou
Assistant Professor, Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Dr. Konstantinos Giannakou holds the position of Assistant Professor in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at European University Cyprus. His educational journey includes the attainment of a BSc in Nursing from Cyprus University of Technology in 2012, followed by an MSc in Public Health from Oxford Brookes University in 2013.
Subsequently, he pursued an MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in 2017, culminating in the successful completion of a PhD in Environmental and Public Health in 2019. Notably, his doctoral work was conducted in collaboration with the esteemed Harvard School of Public Health. His involvement research projects such as those funded by the European Environment Agency and the European Commission. Particularly noteworthy is his role in the Horizon 2020 research project, HBM4EU (Horizon 2020, Grant Agreement No. 733032), a testament to his dedication to advancing scientific knowledge.
Moreover, he has actively participated in the European Commission's Digital Europe Programme “LEVEL UP” initiative, which focuses on enhancing the digital transformation of SME’s managers and employees. In addition to his academic and research accomplishments, Dr. Giannakou is an engaged member of various professional associations. Since 2021, he has been a member of the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee and the Italy and Mediterranean Europe Network (NNEdPro Network). Furthermore, he serves as a management member of the CA19127: Cognitive Decline in Nephro- Neurology: European Cooperative Target COST Action Project, underscoring his commitment to collaborative scientific efforts. Moreover, Dr. Giannakou’s dedication extends to ethical considerations in research involving healthy volunteers, as he has joined the VolREthics Initiative: Healthy Research Volunteers and Ethics in 2023. His primary research interests encompass nutritional epidemiology and epidemiological vaccine research. Dr. Giannakou boasts an impressive publication record, with over 70 scientific journal articles published in international peer-reviewed journals. This body of work has garnered substantial recognition, with an i10-index of 21 and over 800 citations.
Additionally, he has presented numerous abstracts at various international conferences, further showcasing his commitment to disseminating research findings. Dr. Giannakou actively engages with the scientific community by serving on the editorial boards of several international peer-reviewed journals and acting as a reviewer for various scientific journals, further establishing his role as a valuable contributor to the advancement of scientific knowledge.
