Elena Yiangou

Lecturer, Speech Pathology

Dr. Elena Yiangou is a lecturer in the program of Speech Therapy at European University Cyprus since 2021. She began working at European University Cyprus part-time as an external scientific associate in 2018. She studied Communication Disorders at Arizona State University in the US. She completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the same university. She stayed in Arizona the following year during which she worked at Desert Voices Oral School for the Deaf as a speech therapist intern. She became specialized in Oral Communication for the Deaf during her Certification Fellowship Year and received her Clinical Competency Certificate (CCC) granting her permission to work independently as an accredited Speech Language Pathologist in the United States.

 

She then pursued her doctorate in 2011 and received the doctorate title in 2020. Her doctorate dissertation was titled “Morphological development and acquisition of the definite article in Cypriot-Greek deaf children with cochlear implants, compared to their typically developing peers”. She is a member of the Executive board of the Association of Registered Speech Language Pathologists as well as the Registration Council of Speech Language Pathologists in Cyprus. During the two years she served on the Registration Council of Speech Language Pathologists in Cyprus, the mechanism for adhering legally to maintaining and practicing continuing professional development, was developed and implemented.
