iCRC

The iCommunicate Research Center [iCRC], part of the European University Cyprus, School of Sciences Department of Health Sciences, pre- and post-graduate programs in Speech and Language Therapy and Speech Pathology, was set up in 2019. iCRC investigates best practices, adapts intervention strategies, and increases implementation of evidence-based practices in communication disorders for children and adults from bench to bedside.

iCRC scientists and experts apply their individual knowledge and offer research perspectives on communication disorders from bench to bedside
to practice.

iCRC creates collaborative research opportunities with several institutions, with increasing success of funded research awards.

Our objectives

The iCRC’s specific objectives are as follows:

To provide an organizational infrastructure for research addressing issues and needs related to communication disorders.

To develop and establish permanent sustainable research equipment and
infrastructure for communication disorders.

To utilize existing and develop new knowledge and approaches to communication disorders in educational, rehabilitation, health and social settings.

To support undergraduate and master programs in the Department ofHealth Sciences as well as establish and run professional developmentcourses or seminars for in-service professionals that are involved in theassessment and intervention of communication disorders.

To increase interaction between students and faculty and enhance student participation in meaningful research projects related to communication disorders.

To set up a knowledge base that would gather, expand, and disseminate global developments in approaches, current trends, and materials related to assessment and interventions of communication disorders.

To attract research funds from Cyprus, European, and international funding sources to conduct high-quality communication disorders-related research.

To provide opportunities for dialogue among people and organizations related to public and private education, allied health, and social services in Cyprus through workshops, colloquia, conferences, guest lectures, and publications that will emphasize innovations in the areas of communication disorders awareness, education, policy, and practice.

To position the European University-Cyprus Department of Health Sciences as leaders in the collaborative and multi-disciplinary research and learning in the field of communication disorders.

Mission

The iCRC seeks to advance knowledge in the areas of prevention, screening, assessment, rehabilitation of communication disorders in all sectors.

-Investigation of effective prevention programs in order to help reduce the communication disorders as a public health and public education concern.


– Investigation of designs and implementations of effective screening programs for possible communication, hearing, and/or feeding and swallowing disorders.


-Investigation of parents perceptions of developmental screening and collaboration with physicians, educators, child care providers, and others to recognize warning signs of developmental disorders and promoting healthy communication development practices.

 

– Development of eligible criteria for dismissal for early intervention

 

– Development of screening procedures and tools based on existing evidence

 

– Conduction of suggested screening programs in a wide variety of educational, community, and health care settings

– Investigation of professionals’, educators’, people’s with communication disorders and families’ beliefs and attitudes toward communication disorders

 

– Investigation of the global challenges in communication disorders

– Investigation of communication disorders assessment models and paradigms

 

– Investigation of documentation of research in communication disorders policy and practice

 

-Development of standardized and/or criterion-referenced tools to compare individuals with their peers

 

– Development of culturally and linguistically appropriate assessment protocols

 

– Development of assessment protocols for selecting augmentative and alternative communication interventions and technology.
